Hi. I recently purchased a Petrified Wood sphere from a local shop. This stone feels bad when I hold it and I don't enjoy the feeling of it. Just wondering if you guys may have info on why a stone may be negative or not feel good. I read that this stone is supposed to be grounding and healing, especially for root chakra, which is why I got it. Just wondering if you have any advice thanks!

Dear A,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your question about why crystals may feel bad or unpleasant when you hold them. Crystals absorb the energy around them at all times. Crystals that have been in a store hold the energy of everyone who has come in and even more so for every person who has touched that particular crystal. They also absorb the energy of the people who harvest, cut, polish, wholesale..etc, them. (This happens with our crystals as well)

Additionally, some crystals, were part of ancient ceremonial sites currently unknown to us, and they may still hold negative energy from the ceremonies, if there were sacrifices involved, or if someone was mis-using them to strengthen their own power for reasons that were not for the highest good. For these reasons, it is important to always cleanse your crystals when you first bring them home.

Once you have cleared the crystals (here is a link to information about how to do this) if you still do not feel good when you hold the crystal, it may be too strong for you at this time, or it may be trying to clear or give energy to something you are not yet ready to deal with, and so you are resisting its energy on some level. If this is the case, try putting it away in a box or drawer for a few months and try it again later. Sometimes we find crystals we will need eventually, but aren't quite ready for.

Crystal Blessings,

Debbie Elaine
