I have purchased many crystals from you. I love them all! I have been collecting them for years then forgot abt them and recently started up again. I have so many that I don't know what they or what they're for. Is there any way to get help in learning what they are and what they're for? Hope you can help! Thank You!, I love your daily posts, readings and descriptions!

Hi L,

Thanks for being a loyal customer and for contacting us with your question. It is always amazing to me how crystals start showing up in our lives when we need them--and often from people who have no idea we like them!

A book I like for identifying crystals is Judy Hall's Encyclopedia of Crystals. The reason I like it is that it is arranged by color, not by crystal name--(because if you don't know what the name is, how are you going to find it in the book?) So that's one good resource. And then, if you narrow it down to a few possibilities, you can search those names online for several images to compare, because one picture of a crystal is really not enough in most cases. Next, if you have a rock shop in your area, you could take them there and ask for help. Some crystals really look so much alike, that they need testing to be truly identified--and some tests can be invasive and cause permanent scratching, so you would need to decide if that's worth it to you.

Another way to identify crystals is if you have a few pieces of something that you KNOW what they are, such as Malachite, and then there's something you think might be malachite, you can spend some time holding the ones you know the identity of, and focusing on what their energy feels like. Then, try holding something different, and comparing how the energies differ. Then you can compare the unknown crystal to the original known crystal to see if it feels like one of the same or something entirely different. Other clues when doing this, include the feel of the surface of the stone, the weight, relative to size and how shiny or dull the finish is. (assuming your comparing two tumbled stones, for example)

Any one of these methods is not foolproof, but combined, they can be very effective, and are also fun ways to learn more about what you have.

Crystal Blessings,

Debbie Elaine
