Selenite is not good to cleanse with water because it's fibrous nature makes it soak it up and little pieces will pop off.

I like to use different kinds of vibrations to cleanse my selenite. Even though some believe it never needs cleaning, they used to tell me that stainless steel is in fact stainless. So on that note, I do these things to cleanse it:
Prayer with a pulse of my breath over the stone
Leaving it in moonlight
Leaving it in sunlight (watch that it does not get too hot)
Smudging with sage or with incense
Using Reiki or other vibrational healing technique.

Also polishing it gently with a very soft cloth, especially for natural pieces.

I have a natural slab that is 12" long that I use to scrape auras to begin a healing
I have a sphere that is wonderful to use during meditations, readings, and scrying.
I have healing wands that are 4" and 8" long
Plus assorted natural specimens

All of the carved pieces have also been coated with a light layer of clear varnish, to protect the delicate surface. I still treat them gently.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your selenite pieces
