Very useful information for those still learning and wanting to work with the healing properties of crystals. I was concerned about working with the most natural forms of the crystals and this article really clarified my confusion. Thanks so much ????????  (Submitted by: Kathy on May 03, 2022)

It is also true that some gemstones are laboratory grown. I have three of these, Tanzanite, Alexandrite and Pink Sapphire.

A crystal's energies and healing powers derive directly from its atomic lattice structure, and so laboratory grown crystals and gems have the precise same powers as those grown by the planet.

The only difference I as a crystal whisperer find, is that laboratory grown crystals lack some of the ancient Earth wisdom of natural crystals. They are just as effective as healing crystals, however, and the snobbery I've noticed around laboratory grown gems, is wholly unnecessary. Please don't reject a laboratory grown crystal for that reason; you might be missing out on a precious friend!

Thanks for the great article! I never knew man made crystals had beneficial energy comparable to natural crystals. There was a lot of other valuable information as well.  (Submitted by: Kimberly on May 26, 2021)

Thank you! This was very informative! I had an aversion to those healing stones that were "meddled with" but now I have a great new respect for them. You have opened up a whole new world for me. Thanks!  (Submitted by: Jennifer Gruber on November 17, 2017)

I wish you had including some evidence that irradiated and otherwise human-meddled with crystals retained their energetic properties. My gut tells me that irradiation can't possibly be good or neutral for something as energetically sensitive as a crystal. I'd love to see a study comparing natural and treated crystals, or like a Kirlian or aura photo before and after.  (Submitted by: Beleszove on February 09, 2017)

Please don't forget that some crystals undergo processes we would consider - for obvious reasons - inimical, to become what they are. Smoky Quartz begins as Clear Quartz but gets naturally irradiated to give it its brown colouration. Natural (i.e. not heat treated) Citrine, like the ones coming out of the Congo at the moment, cannot exist from the first as Citrine, but begins its life as Amethyst and gets heated to 600°C -- indeed, the same is true of commercial Citrine; the difference is in who or what does the heating. For commercial Citrine, it's a person; for natural Citrine, it's Mother Earth, usually through volcanic activity but perhaps, sometimes, through granite extrusion.

Stones and crystals are living beings, of that I have no doubt; but they're somewhat hardier than us flesh and blood humans!  (Submitted by: Cherry on November 20, 2021)

Hello! I am very connected with healing crystals right now, as this is the fourth syncronicity that has happened in the last month. I am wondering about using my heat treated citrine and here y'all posted an article about it today! My question is should the heat treated citrine be used as citrine, amethyst, or in some other way? Thank you for your wonderful site and guidance.  (Submitted by: Lizzy Carol on February 11, 2014)

Heat treated Citrine is still Citrine. Heat treated or natural, it begins life as Amethyst and must be heated to 600°C in order for it to turn into Citrine at all.

So, basically, Citrine is Citrine and can be used as such, whether commercial (heat treated) or natural, came-out-the-ground-that-way Citrine.

Well, since 'natural' and heat treated Citrine both begin their lives as Amethyst, and both are heated to 600°C to transform them into Citrine (the only difference being that 'natural' Citrine is heated to that temperature by the planet, normally via volcanic activity or sometimes, perhaps, a granitic extrusion, whereas heat treated Citrine is heated by a human being), I'd advise you to treat and employ them both as what they are: Citrine. Nothing more, nothing less.

There is a small difference in energy, but no reason at all for the sniffiness I've seen and experienced around heat treated Citrines. They need love too!  (Submitted by: Cherry on November 28, 2021)
