I had this problem with residue on my oak table. Remembering that salt will always be and behave like salt, I scraped the salt residue off the table with a plastic rectangular scraper with a smooth edge, the kind I use on pots and pans to gently take off food. Then I just put a washcloth in warm water, and wiped the table. It looks good now. Granted, oak table and all and no "eating" of the wood. I am now off to find a plate to put under the lamp.  (Submitted by: bajo on December 01, 2022)

Thank you so much for this answer Stephanie T.!!! This has happened to my lamp the last week or so, and I just went to google looking for the answer!  (Submitted by: tess on January 13, 2017)

You may want to try placing a tabletop fountain near to help balance the humidity. It seems to help now that I have the heat on for the winter. Bonus relaxing water feature :) I have mine on constantly but I do turn it down to a low dim at night.  (Submitted by: Terkop on December 04, 2013)
