“The Illustrated Directory of Healing Crystals”

by Cassandra Eason

ISBN: 978-1-84340-455-2 ©2003, 2008

Touted as “a comprehensive guide to 150 crystals and gemstones”, this compact, yet extensive crystal directory is just that – comprehensive. It may have only 160 pages, but there is a wealth of information here.  Just the Introduction alone carries quite a bit of information, such as the history of crystals, choosing crystals, colors, the chakras, crystal healing methods, psychic development, cleansing your crystals, crystals at home/work, healing animals, crystals for children and healing the environment.

The directory itself is divided into chapters by color. The photographs are stunning and each crystal is given its place in history/mythology; divinatory significance (should you choose to use your stones for this purpose); uses at home/work; children and animals; psychic associations and recharging/cleansing guidelines. But wait, there’s more! Each crystal description also includes a box in the margin that contains even more properties – physical stone characteristics and color as well as zodiac, angelic, planetary, herb, flower and chakra correspondences. The only things lacking are Mohs hardness scales and locations as to where the crystals are normally found.

The appendix features birthstones, creating your own set of crystals as well as chakra sets (and where to place them), and an index.

Pros

  • Extensive Descriptions
  • Multiple Uses Defined
  • Stunning Photos
  • Additional Information in margin boxes

Cons

  • Lacks Mohs Hardness ratings
  • No locations listed

One of the most notable attributes in The Illustrated Directory of Healing Crystals is that Cassandra Eason tells you how to use the crystals, which is a far cry from many of the crystal books out there that only describe the stone and its properties. Very few actually inform you of essentially what to do with those stones after you’ve acquired them.  I highly recommend this book.
