Question:

"Hello! I want to thank You very much for the beautiful honey citrines I just received and in connection with these I need to ask you a question, which I did not find in Your Q&A. It`s been said a lot about the heat and light that cause citrines to loose color. Some say even electric light is harmful. I am lost. I don't want my rocks to fade, and nobody gives any idea on how hot the heat and how bright the light should be to keep them safe. One can't enjoy (and use) beautiful stones keeping them in the dark all time. I will appreciate Your advice very much."

Answer:

Hi E,

Different crystals may be affected by light, but not all of them :)

For instance, Amethyst will fade over time when put in direct sunlight, as will the colorful Fluorites. My favorite crystals of all time are the natural Smokey Citrines (I am truly addicted to them! LOL), which are similar to the Honey Citrines that you have purchased. Mine have free run of the house. They are everywhere! In front of windows that get direct morning sun, under lighting, etc and to my knowledge, none of them have ever faded significantly enough to where I could notice a difference.

I do feel that the Citrine which is heat-treated in a lab would be more likely to fade in time. This is because heat-treated Citrine is actually Amethyst that has been heated (in a lab) in order to make the ice tea, dark Citrine color. And since Amethyst is known to fade in sunlight... the heat-treated Citrine will most likely follow that pattern.

Your Honey Citrine is natural, meaning it has not been heat-treated in any way. So, my best advice to you is to put your lovely Honey Citrine any where you are led to display it. I do not feel that they will fade significantly. If you are concerned, just keep an eye out for any changes and if there is a color change, then move them to a place that may get a bit less direct light. I honestly do not feel they need to be kept in the dark.

Of course, if you are unsure about a specific crystal fading, please feel free to ask at any time

With love and crystal blessings,
Kristi
