I ordered a salt lamp recently online and it was very wet when it arrived. None of the packaging was wet at all when it came. Is there a component of the lamp that would have moisture in it?

Hi M:

Thank you for your question about your Salt Lamp and why it is "Sweating".

Salt Lamps are composed of natural salt from the Himalayas.  The salt crystal may sweat and appear damp when it is in a very humid atmosphere.  It is possible that wherever it came from was humid or while it was in the package it was in a humid area so it was damp when you opened it.  The best way to avoid this happening to the lamp is to keep the bulb lit as often as possible.  I have two in my home and they are always on so even though it can be quite humid in the warmer months they always stay dry.  You might not want to place an electric bulb in the lamp until it is dry so I would follow the advice in this article and try scrubbing it and using your oven to dry it out.
