Question:
"First I want to thank you for quick shipping and for lovely stones!! I have 1 question: How can one tell a difference between black jasper, black agate and black onyx?"
Answer:
Hi M,
Thanks for reaching out to us. Great question too :D
Black jasper is a jet black and opaque crystal with a glassy luster. It is often found in masses or as small pebbles and nodules. In its natural form, black jasper may appear rough, worn, and earth-toned.
Black agate is a jet black, opaque crystal that is often found tumbled. Some pieces, when sliced, will have white and black banding with a drusy, shimmering center. Black agate has a glassy luster.
Black onyx is an opaque, jet black crystal. Onyx has a heavy weight and a dull shine that becomes glassy when polished. Black onyx occasionally has white spots or lines and may have a waxy feel. Quite a lot of jewelry is generally Black Onyx.
When they're tumbled I find it REALLY difficult to tell them apart personally and that's why I prefer to have them natural when it comes to black stones, but hopefully this will help you tell them apart.
Here's a great article to help as well: How to ID Your Crystals When They all Look the Same
Hope this helps!
