What is the best way to cleanse and charge Obsidian?

"Hi, I just bought a black obsidian point and I want to cleanse it and charge it the right way, I can't damage it, what is the best way to do so? Sunlight, water, salt or sound? Are they all safe? Especially the sunlight method, I lost a crystal after charging it with the sunlight."

Thank you for reaching out to us.

There isn't one best way to cleanse your Obsidian as there isn't a one size fit all option for crystals. There are many ways to cleanse/clear your Black Obsidian, but the most important part in my opinion, is to hold the intention to clear the crystal/s of energetic build-up that isn't for the highest good of all, including yourself.

When it comes to cleansing/clearing, go with a method that works for YOU. It is also important to enjoy clearing your crystals and have fun. It shouldn't feel like a chore or something you HAVE to do because it's what is expected.

Some of the various ways you can cleanse/clear crystals:

  • Moon light - full or new moon is best but crystals LOVE lunar energy from any of the phases. Great for charging, especially the New Moon phase.
  • Smoke Clearing - one of the most common ways to clear your crystals and you can use common Sage, Palo Santo (ethically sourced) or any incense (not artificially scented).
  • Rice - brown rice is another great, inexpensive way to clear your crystals. Throw the rice out after you've cleansed your crystals.
  • Sound - this is my favourite way of clearing crystals! I just love it and I think I get more of a cleansing than my crystals do. You can use singing bowls, singing pyramids (these are amazing!) tingshaw bells, tuning forks or even some YouTube clearing videos (you can use ours here to clear your crystals). I like to use sound to both clear and charge my crystals. I simply change up the intention depending on whether I'm cleansing or charging.

Sunlight, salt and water can be very harsh methods in my opinion.
Sunlight can fade your crystals and water can damage some crystals. Salt can also be damaging because if the salt gets caught in a crack, it can attract moisture, which can damage some crystals.

  In my Lineage , tribe of Seastars, We burry our obsidian eggs in the earth to clear and charge . This brings it back to the earth frequency ????????  (Submitted by: IIXCHELLE on November 08, 2022)

  For obsidian which is a natural form of glass nearly any form of cleansing can be used on them even some of the more harsh ones I know of like flame cleansing salt/ocean water cleansing. The most important thing with obsidian when it comes to cleansing is to have a pure intention of removing the negative energy and to use a cleansing method thats right for you and how potent of negativity is within the stone.  (Submitted by: Dalton on October 12, 2020)
