wondering if you can tell me what cat's eye is? I've heard of it before, but i think it's different than tiger eye. I did a search but nothing came up. Am I crazy or is there such a thing?

thanks again!

Hi Tracy :)
I found this Q and A that I wrote quite a while ago that may help to explain Cat's Eye.

Q: Is Cat's Eye a crystal?

A: No, in actuality, Cat's Eye is a type of shimmer like configuration which can be in a number of different specimens, mainly a variety of quartz, tourmaline or chrysoberyl, but not limited to only these.

Q: So what defines "Cat's Eye" ?

A: A crystal is called Cat's Eye, when it basically exhibits a vertical chatoyancy which allows the stone to resemble a cat's eye

Q: OK, what exactly is "chatoyancy"?

A: Chatoyancy is a jewelry term meaning "reflecting a single streak of light"

Q: What causes the chatoyancy?

A: A chatoyancy is usually caused from the inclusion of straight fibers of asbestos

Q: Does it have any metaphysical properties?

A: Of course! Cat's eye can be used to stimulate intuition and to enhance awareness, as well as being a protective stone and dispelling unwanted energies from ones etheric field.

Q: So what is the difference between Tigers Eye or Hawkeye and something like Cat's Eye?

A: Usually the shimmer in something like a Tigers Eye is going across the piece and in repetitive fashion. Cat's Eye has a streak of light going up and down and is usually a singular reflection.

I hope this is helpful!
with love and crystal blessings,
Kristi
