I had a quick question about clearing/ cleaning clear quartz crystals. If you do not have a smudge stick can you use regular inscense? And are there other ways of clearing crystals that are not damaging to it? Will soaking it in water eventually ruin the quartz?

Dear D,

Thank you for your inquiry. Incense can clean a crystal depending on the scent. If the scent is made from a commercial blend like 'Strawberry" it will not clean. If it says that it purifies on the label, there is a good chance it has an herb like Sage in it which does clean.  You can also use light, dirt, water, moonlight, and even rice to clean crystals. Here is a link to a videothat explains more on how to clean crystals. Here is a link to an articlethat touches upon more ways to clean crystals too.

Soaking a Clear Quartz crystal in water will not damage it, if it is warm water. If you use hot or cold water it can damage it. Although Clear Quartz can handle salt in water I don't usually recommend this method, because it can be too harsh for some crystals. Also there are some crystals that can be damaged by water like Selenite, Mica, Calcite in the rough, and many more. Before cleaning crystals I usually check on online or in books to make sure they can be exposed to water in any form since I like to leave mine on windowsills and there are occasions where freak rainstorms do happen.

I hope that these recommendations can be of assistance and that crystals grace your journey with love and light.

Crystal Blessings!
