Thank you for reaching out to us with your question about the best crystal for dowsing. Whenever someone asks for the "Best" crystal for any purpose, I share with them that there is no such thing. Everyone responds individually to every crystal, and what one person finds to be the most responsive and amazing crystal for something, may lay dormant another person's hand. So, I can give you what generally is the case, but please know that it might not be the case for you.
Clear Quartz is the most effective crystal for amplifying intention and for working towards the largest variety of goals. So, for someone starting out dowsing, I recommend Clear Quartz. Personally, I have a Clear Quartz pendulum and a Blue Fluorite one. The Clear Quartz gives me clearer answers--swings more, but I feel better using the Blue Fluorite because it is more in harmony with my individual energy, and so it seems to react better to the nuances of my questions. If you have a particular type of crystal that you are consistently drawn to, you might want to try a pendulum in that crystal.
Another way to make sure you get the best results from dowsing with a crystal pendulum is to clear it before use and ask it to show you "yes" and show you "no" before you begin. Be sure to set your intention to receive guidance from pure light sources and for your highest good. Being sure you ask your questions as clearly and concisely as possible also helps with more accurate results.
