Obsidian for Calm, Balanced Energy

By Debbie Elaine

Recently I was struggling to work with a new group of students who are unusually energetic and almost manic most of the time. I found myself edgy and exhausted and feeling victimized any time I worked with this particular group. I had trouble finishing sentences and really worried that I would be unable to help them focus on what they needed to do to have success in my class. I’m a veteran teacher, yet nothing I tried could get the group focused and I was really feeling beat-up from being around them.

Then one night as I lay trying to recover and get ready for the following day, I realized that wearing the right crystals could protect me from the overwhelming energy. Usually, I think of Black Tourmaline for protection, but since I need to be the leader in the room and not just hide myself from the unbalanced energy, I knew it would have to be something else.

That’s when it came to me - Obsidian! I already had a Rainbow Obsidian cabochon necklace that I noticed helped somewhat, but I needed more. So I found some Black Obsidian beads and made a choker-style necklace with silver beads among the Obsidian. Then I cleansed both necklaces on Selenite and programmed them to “protect me from unbalanced and dense energies for my highest good.” I couldn’t wait until the next day I would see that class!

When the day came, I Reiki-ed the necklaces to strengthen the program and then put them on.  It was incredible! The kids were bouncy, enthusiastic and full of adolescent drama. I could observe the unbalanced energy around me, but it seemed to just flow by me because the Obsidian kept me separated from it. Then I was able to help the kids calm down and get to work. I came home feeling calm, balanced and looking forward to the next time I see that class. Thank you, Black Obsidian!
