Emerald is the green form of Beryl and it is a rich, vibrant green crystal with occasional tints of blue-green or yellow-green. It may also contain black veins and patches of matrix. The crystal can range from transparent (noteably in gemstones) to opaque, and has a glassy luster. Emeralds are brittle and many contain cracks or flaws when tumbled.
