Question:

"I have a clear quartz and an amethyst. The quartz is turning cloudy and brown, and my amethyst is getting black spots. I don't use mine for anything. I just have them sitting by my bed. Should I put them in salt water too?"

Answer:

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for reaching out to Healing Crystals and for your comment on our article!

Crystals can change colors for a variety of reasons. The most common reason I usually see is the environment in which they are kept. For example, if someone in the home is a smoker, this can certainly cause color alterations. Keeping crystals in direct sunlight can also have this effect. The spots on your amethyst could be natural inclusions of another mineral. On the other hand, it's possible that the changes you see in your crystals are the result of energy they've absorbed. Quartz is quite resilient to all forms of cleansing, so salt water would be a safe choice for cleansing them.

I once found an amethyst in a box that had been packed away for over a decade that had turned so dark it was almost brown. I was unable to restore it to the shade of purple that it was before I misplaced it. Hopefully you will have better results.

I hope this helps answer your question. Please feel free to contact us if we can be of further assistance.
