I would like some crystals to ward off negative energy, promote a feeling of peace and combat stress. Please tell me what you recommend.

For warding off negative energy I would recommend Black Obsidian, Labradorite, Black Onyx, and Black Tourmaline.
For promoting feeling of peace and combating stress I'd recommend Brown Tourmaline (Dravite), Smokey Quartz, Lithium Quartz, White Agate, Blue Lace Agate, and Amethyst. Choose those that you feel most drawn to as you look at their photo, which you can access by clicking on the names of the stones.
