I was just told tonight that infusing water with crystals could help my son. We recently went mining for gems in North Carolina and have various stones that are raw. Are they o.k. to use? I am trying the Amethyst in water. I washed the stones and placed in a Brita water pitcher which is plastic, not glass. Will that not achieve the same benefit? Should I tumble our stones prior to using them? Are there any other uses for our stones? Thanks!

Hi M,

Thanks for your inquiry. You can use the stones you picked up at your local mine to make gem water. It doesn't matter if the stones are raw or polished. You will want to check for the on the list of Crystal Safeguards here.  If you are using a crystal that is on this list or if you are unsure of the crystal's composition, you should make your gem water using the indirect method, where the crystal doesn't touch the water you drink. Plastic does not allow all of the crystal's energy through it, so I prefer to use glass. Also, you will want to be sure that the surface of the crystal is thouroughly cleaned of any sediment or residues.

I like to go to local mines and beaches to collect stones myself too. You can use all of these in the same way that you would use your tumbled and polished crystals for all types of healing, energizing space, crystal grids, etc. I like the connection that I feel with crystals that I have collected myself. Even if you don't know exactly which crystal they are, if you are drawn to them their energy is beneficial to you at this time. :)
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope your journey is blessed with Love and Light.

Crystal Blessings,

Stephanie A.
