As crystals, Hypersthene forms as thin plates, masses, tabular and prismatic crystals. Generally it is has a brown color but can also have a gray, green or black color. It's unique in that it exhibits pleochroic properties and this means that it can have different colors depending on how you look at it.
While it's flash appears similar to Labradorite and it is also known as Velvet Labradorite, it is not a variety of Labradorite.
