Question:
"How to differentiate between Golden Topaz and Golden Beryl?"
Answer:
Hi there M,
Golden Topaz and Golden Beryl can look very similar in colour but they are from different crystal families with different formations so that can help you differentiate from the two. I'll assist you with this:
Imperial Topaz also known as Golden Topaz:
Imperial topaz is a yellow crystal with golden tones. It is often transparent to translucent, with terminated crystals. Imperial topaz can have a glassy luster and long striations.
Golden Beryl:
Golden beryl is a bright, sunny yellow to yellow-gold stone. The crystal is prismatic, sometimes striated, and often transparent, with a glassy shine.
Heliodor is also known as yellow or golden beryl but differs in colour. It is a yellow to yellow-green crystal that ranges from translucent to opaque. This crystal has a glassy, shiny luster and may have vertical striations. It will always have that greenish tint to it.
So take a look at the formations. Imperial Topaz also has the striations and it will run down the length of the stone, especially in natural form. Golden beryl doesn't always have striations and has more a sunny yellow colour as opposed to the golden toned Imperial Topaz. Also, Topaz usually has a more orange tinge to it.
I hope this helps :)
