Thanks for reaching out to us.
You can smudge it for as long as it's necessary and you feel it's cleansed. There isn't really a specific time period.
For me the crystal feels cooler and often the smoke pulls more to one side.

After cleansing and charging, you would want to program your stones with your intentions. Read more about that here.
Basically programming (although I dislike that word) involves asking your stone to assist you with your goals and asking it in such a way that it's already done, for instance, I ask this stone to protect me through the day with negative energy and so it is.
I also like to leave my intentions open-ended because often crystals can do more for us than we can imagine and I like to leave the door open for my crystal to do that. For instance, I ask this stone to help me connect with the faerie realm and more during this meditation.
Getting clear about what you want to achieve with your stones helps give you direction as to what you want and what you want to achieve.
