Received some of your crystals for my birthday & my question is:  how do I meditate with these crystals & how will I know if it is working? I received a watermelon tourmaline, a clear quartz & green adventure crystal heart. Please send me any info — very much appreciated.

Hi Judy,

I think the first thing to do is to set an intention for the work you and your crystals will be doing together. For instance, what is your intent for going into meditation? To clear the mind? To remove stress/tension? Do you want to remain as a blank slate or do you want interaction with your higher self via information (visions, auditory), etc?

If you asked a dozen people what meditation was, I bet you would get a dozen different answers. Meditation techniques are as varied as the meditators. I can share what it is for me if that would be helpful :)

For me, meditation is simply being still and releasing all thoughts — troubles and issues of the day (What am I going to cook for dinner? Does this dress make me look fat?) — ALL thoughts :) and being quiet.

There are formal meditations:  Guided Meditations, Walking Meditations, Sitting Meditations, Chanting Meditations. Some are quite rigorous and rule-filled :)

You have selected some lovely crystals for the heart :) I would suggest trying a guided meditation that will help take you directly into your heart space. Do a little research online and on YouTube (great place for guided meditations!) and find something that feels right for you.

You may decide to try a formal meditation using your crystals. First, if you choose to sit up, you can hold the crystals in your hands. You could also try making a triangle of the crystals and sit inside of that triangle. If you lay down, you could put the Aventurine heart on your heart chakra and hold the quartz in one hand and the watermelon tourmaline in the other. I suggest starting with ten minutes a day.

Or you may find that a breath meditation works best for you, which is basically finding something to occupy your mind so that all of the thoughts and chatter in the mind lessens. In this case, it would be counting the breath. Breathe in deeply for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4, still for a count of 4, breathe in deeply for a count of 4 and so on. You can set the count to whatever you want. Yes, technically your mind is not still because it is counting :) BUT it IS still from all of the chatter, and this is a very good start!

These are all very effective ways to find peace and stillness within. The practice itself helps to increase discipline, while centering the energies of the body.

You can just as easily do the same thing when washing the dishes or mowing the lawn. Amazing that when you are focused on a single goal, the mind becomes as still as water, with no ripples (thoughts) in the pond. :)

How will you know if it is working? You will know when it is working because you will come out of the session relaxed, centered, calm and feeling at ease. As I mentioned at the beginning, I suppose that would be a good place to start... by stating your intent. What do you want to accomplish through the practice of meditation? When you have reached your intent, you will know it has worked :)

Enjoy the meditation experience. It can be truly amazing and liberating, joyous and educational all at the same time :)
