It is very difficult to say how long it takes for stones to work because that can differ from person to person. Some find that certain crystals work faster while others not so much.
In my opinion, their hardness will not effect how fast they work but it can impact their energy. For instance, Calcite is quite soft so it's known to be a more gentle healer and the same goes for tumbled crystals. Many feel that tumbled crystals work slower because they have more of a gentle energy but some people have quite huge shifts with tumbled crystals or softer crystals. That being said, Selenite is also considered soft and it's quite high vibrational. Softer or stronger energy doesn't really impact how fast they work I feel.
I would say that a crystal reminds us that everything happens when it must and THAT timing is right for us. Sometimes we rush unnecessarily and don't get through what is necessary. Sometimes we drag our feet because doing the work is uncomfortable.
Keep working with your crystal and staying mindful of what you want to achieve with that crystal so that you can be aware of any shifts that you need to make to reach your goals.
Don't forget to cleanse and clear your crystals!
