When you do smudging, how do you hold the crystal so that the hole crystal is smudged? Can you put it in a cloth bag of some sort and hold it over the smoke or how is this done? Or doesn't the whole crystal have to be smudged if you hold it in your fingers?

Dear D,
Thank you for your inquiry. I have a couple of things that I do to simplify smudging.  I place the sage in a fireproof container and light it.  Once it is lit, I blow the flame out, place the crystal/s on a splatter guard, and hold it over the smoke (approximately six to twelve inches) so that the crystal/s get cleaned quickly, easily, and entirely. Please make sure not to place too many crystals on the splatter guard, because it can become to heavy and fall from your hands.
If you have sage incense, you can light the incense in an incense box that closes and has an opening that lets the smoke out. I place my crystal/s on the box and the smoke cleans them. The one caveat with this method is that some incense sticks have an oily residue that can get on the crystals. You may want to try several different types first to see how they burn, before placing the crystal/s on the box.
If you can’t use the suggestions above, you can do exactly what you wrote and hold the crystal with one hand over the smoke. When you feel it has been cleaned, hold the opposite end of the crystal and clean the end that was previously not exposed to the smoke.
I hope that these recommendations can be of assistance and that crystals grace your journey with love and light.

Crystal Blessings!
