Hello everyone! It is back to school time! As we get ready to transition to a new season and all that it brings, we have prepared two great articles on this topic.

In her article “Crystals for Changes and Transitions”, Rachel Niemczyk discusses how to make seasonal and life transitions easier with the help of crystals. She connects the particular aspects of dealing with transition, such as emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual, with specific crystals, such as Watermelon Tourmaline and Rutilated Quartz, and describes how they can assist us.

Deb Gutteridge’s article “Crystals for the Seasons” is based on George Frederick Kunz’s book The Curious Lore of Precious Stones from 1939. In her article, Deb summarizes the connection he made between specific crystals and the gifts and challenges that each new season brings.

Crystals for Changes & Transitions

By Rachel Niemczyk

Most people can look back from their current selves to how they were six months, one year, five years, ten years ago or more and recognize differences. Some are physical - a new haircut, a different clothing style, changes in location or occupation. Others are mental - learning a new subject, trying a different approach to a situation, activism for a social or political situation of interest. Emotional shifts are more frequent, often resulting from interactions with family, friends, co-workers, or negative people. Spirituality seems like the least likely to change, yet can be quite fluid through deepening a practice and an openness to learn about differing views from yours.

The point is, however much we may try to deny it, change is a constant factor in our lives. Some changes are small, others large and life altering. Sometimes we have weeks or months to prepare and ease into these changes, but more often they are unexpected, jarring, confusing, and stressful. Yet for better or for worse, change is a fact of life we have to deal with. Otherwise, we get stuck in the past, unable to move forward and help ourselves or those we care for most.

While experiencing any change or transition it is useful to have crystals to aid you. They can’t erase all your problems or miraculously guarantee a perfect outcome, but they can act as constant companions who make transitions easier and smoother for you and the ones you love. If you allow them to, the following crystals can be as comforting as finding safe harbor in the midst of a turbulent storm.

Chrysocolla - The green color of Chrysocolla relates to the Heart Chakra and perfectly symbolizes how this crystal can support you during difficult times. This stone boosts your confidence and gives you the courage to deal with whatever situation you are facing. It is excellent for your heart, helping you release stress and tension while bringing joy into your life.

Garnet - Garnet is a fantastic stone for the Base (or Root) Chakra. It enhances confidence and survival instincts, allowing you to navigate tricky situations more easily. It is less well known for, but equally effective at, subtly bringing out love for life.

Jet - Commonly known as a grounding and protective crystal, Jet is also powerfully cleansing. It slowly removes negative energies from your body, essentially reducing the hold that emotions such as fear and sadness can have over you. Combined with its ability to balance your yin and yang energies, Jet leaves you as steady and stable as possible for whatever may come.

Labradorite - Labradorite radiates a magical quality, and is excellent for alchemical purposes. By simultaneously enhancing your intuition and mental clarity, it allows you to envision multiple possibilities and find a path to the outcome of your choice.

Malachite - If you are ever emotionally exhausted, Malachite might be the perfect crystal to use. It balances your emotions, reducing negativity such as stress and tension while increasing positivity in the forms of hope and happiness. With the final touches of boosting endurance and cleansing the aura, Malachite leaves you in a much better position than that which you started from.

Moonstone - When your emotions are too strong to think clearly and seem to take over your life Moonstone is the crystal you need. Unlike Malachite which supports emotional health in general, Moonstone is specifically geared towards helping you find inner peace. As such it helps relieve stress, mitigates over sensitivity, and calms you down so your actions can come from a place of inner harmony.

Rhyolite - Rhyolite promotes a strong body and soul connection within you. Its wonderful earth energy grounds you in the physical while its deep soulful energy connects with you on a higher vibration. This facilitates change on the soul level so that you can find solutions to conditions on the physical world.

Rutilated Quartz - Rutilated Quartz has a fantastic higher vibration that supports spiritual growth. This is best facilitated by guiding the user towards truth. Recognizing the truth (whether it is an unbiased understanding of a situation or a personal truth) helps you understand why a particular transition is necessary; and that very action opens up doorways towards spiritual enlightenment.

Tree Agate - Another crystal very symbolic of its name, Tree Agate promotes positive attributes of trees within you. It helps you to remain calm, rooting you into clarity and logic rather than emotional overreactions. These “roots” in turn give you a strength and flexibility to persevere through all types of weather.

Watermelon Tourmaline - This crystal is exceptional for applying mental and emotional clarity to a transitional period of your life. On a mental level it brings patience and understanding to learn and accept the who, what, when, where, and why of the situation. Emotionally, it relieves stress and supports inner peace so you can move through this transition as painlessly and securely as possible.

Crystals for the Seasons

By Deb Gutteridge

Over the centuries many correspondences have been made to the gem and crystal world. There are stones for every planet, zodiac sign, chakra, season, day, hour, etc. This month I would like to share some of the work of George Frederick Kunz. In his book, The Curious Lore of Precious Stones, Kunz explains that each crystal - and the corresponding season of the year it embodies - brings us its special gifts and challenges. This article will list associated crystals, and suggest ways to use them each season.

Spring

The word spring brings to mind the season and images of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection and regrowth. We think of nature blossoming and coming to life. On the spring equinox the Earth’s poles are the same distance from the Sun. On this day there are roughly 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night, with day length increasing as the season progresses. Kunz tells us that the stones for spring are Amethyst, Chrysoberyl, Emerald, Green Diamond, Peridot (Olivine), Pink Topaz, and Spinel. A couple of ways to utilize your crystals include programming some crystals to assist you to allow new things into your life. Imagine what you would like to create in your life and find ways to make plans to realize these dreams. Another way to use your crystals is by creating order out of chaos by going through your home and/or office and getting rid of things you no longer need. To keep healthy and joyful during spring, get outside, take long walks in nature and observe the changes going on all around you. Carry or wear your crystals wherever you go.

Summer

Summer is traditionally associated with hot weather, fun outdoors and growth. People take advantage of the warmer temperatures by enjoying more time outdoors during the summer. Kunz tells us Alexandrite, Fire Opal, Garnet, Pink Topaz, RubySpinel, and Zircon are the stones for summer. As summer is a time for play and relaxation, make sure to create time each day to “de-stress”. Take a few minutes to just sit and breathe. Have a relaxing bath with your crystals. It is important that you rehydrate. Drink lots of pure, fresh water infused with your crystals’ energy. Your body will thank you. Information on how to infuse water can be found in our articles.

Autumn

Known as fall in the US and Canada, autumn is when the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier and the temperature cools considerably. We notice the transition from summer into winter. A main feature is the shedding of leaves from deciduous trees as they pave way for further growth. It is the time for harvesting the crops to see us through the winter. The autumn gems, as suggested by Kunz, include Adamantine Spar, Chrysoberyl, Sapphire, Topaz, Tourmaline and Zircon. In autumn remember to meditate or pray, holding your crystals. This is the time of year when spirit is more accessible. Request assistance from your crystals. Practice letting go. Release old resentments or hurts and start a new.

Winter

Winter is associated with snow, freezing temperatures, and staying warm in front of a fire. It’s the time for resting, while nature goes into dormancy or hibernation. At the winter solstice, the days are the shortest and the nights longest. Clear Quartz, Diamond, Labradorite, Moonstone, Pearl, White Sapphire, and Turquoise are the gems of winter according to Kunz. To keep toasty and peaceful during winter, take time to listen and recharge your body, and to replenish your reserves, which will be needed during the surges of spring. Winter is a time to recharge; so learn to listen to what others have to say and listen to your heart speaking to you. Be patient. Meditate with your crystals and listen to your higher self. As winter is a time to go within, your inner being comes closer to the surface in winter, let your crystals guide you. Don’t be afraid of your darker side; let any and all images unfold. Keep a journal and record your feelings, thoughts, and dreams: don’t analyze them, just record them. Look at them again later and see if the images convey an inner message to you.

Well, I hope that gives you some ideas to utilize through the seasons. The changing seasons always signal the end of one type of adventure and the beginning of another, and our crystal friends will always be there to assist our voyage through life. Enjoy!
