"I wish to purchase a new piece of amethyst but I’m wary about doing so as every piece of amethyst I’ve used has either broke and/or gotten lost. Does that mean anything? Is there any good alternatives to amethyst that I can use?"

Thank you for your crystal inquiry.
Crystals can get lost or be broken for many different reasons. Sometimes the crystals has done alot of healing and has not been cleansed or cared for which can then cause it to break. Other times it can just be a natural fracture that causes it to break. A crystal that comes up missing could be it is needed elsewhere and could turn up again at any point. Amethyst is one of those crystals that is considered a "Master Healer" as it can accomplish healing of many different issues. So what you might need to do is either add some Clear Quartz along with the Amethyst or switch from Clear Quartz and then back to Amethyst for periods of time. Clear quartz is great for amplifying the properties of other crystals and it is also a "Master Healer".
