Each mine will have different rules and prices. Some provide equipment and others don't. At some mines there are areas that are "seeded" so that everyone can find something. Many are only opened seasonally so it is better to check before going. Some areas require hard hats and boots to be worn. I like to bring a flashlight, jeweler's loupe, a small brush, and a box with compartments. Having a book with clear pictures is a help in identifying unusual minerals. If you are not sure of the mines in your area, there may be a mineralogical society near you that may provide more information about what is found in your local neighborhood.
