Andalusite is a tan and black gem-quality crystal with a glassy shine. It is translucent to transparent; the crystals are rectangular, and occasionally have beveled edges. It may appear in other colors as well, such as brown, green, orange, pink, red, or white. Chiastolite or Fairy Cross is a well-known brown variety of Andalusite.
