A Guide to Crystal Gifting

By Tara Mideaker

If you are anything like me, you probably have friends, family and associates who just don't "get" crystals.  Maybe they appreciate their decorative appeal and think of them as cool knick-knacks.  It is even more likely that they wear them as jewelry.  They can see their obvious qualities but cannot understand how a crystal can provide healing and guidance.  One of my favorite things about crystals is that you don't have to understand how they work...you don't even have to believe that they will work...all that you need to do is be around them and everyone benefits.  That is why I often give crystals as gifts - even to the skeptics (and I know plenty!) and I have found that the gifts are often well received and have surprising results.  I haven't brought any of those skeptics over to my side...but I have found that they do use their crystals when they need them - even if they don't realize it.  So if you are planning on 'gifting" a crystal this holiday season, here are some tips to help you choose the ones that will work the best.

What kind of healing do you want to gift?

If you are considering getting someone a crystal it is probably because you have an idea of how it could benefit them.  Maybe your boss is always on the go and you want to give them a crystal that would complement their fiery personality like a Black Obsidian or Red Jasper.   If they seem overwhelmed you might consider a Chrysocolla or Selenite to relieve their stress and open their mind to other possibilities.  Does someone close to you have a physical ailment that would benefit from crystal healing?   You can review the Issues and Ailments Guide to find the crystal that will help alleviate their symptoms.  Someone with muscular issues would benefit from a Hematite or Emerald.  It is cold and flu season, so an Aquamarine or Fluorite could help keep them healthy.

Which crystal reminds you of the recipient?

I am a firm believer that crystals often choose us and tend to come into our lives when we need them the most.  Likewise, when you are thinking about someone a crystal might pop into your mind or jump out at you online or in a store.  Let's say that you have a friend who is having some romantic issues and you want to get her a crystal.  Labradorite may not be associated with that particular issue or for working on the Heart Chakra, but still it feels like the one that will help her the most.  Do not get caught up in pre-conceived ideas about the "right" crystal.  Always follow your instinct and select the crystal that you feel belongs with that person.

What if you just cannot decide on the "right" crystal?

When in doubt just keep it simple.  You can never go wrong with universal crystals like Clear Quartz, Amethyst, and Rose Quartz.  If those don't feel right consider the recipient's favorite color or what they wear the most.  If someone loves the color blue then go with Lapis Lazuli.  If they always wear orange try Carnelian.  They will notice that you see what makes them happy and that makes the gift personal and memorable.

How will they use the crystal?

You want to think about how your recipient will use your gift since not everyone walks around with bags of crystals on them.  I know...it is hard for us to believe but it is true!  Jewelry is an obvious solution as long as the recipient actually enjoys wearing jewelry.  Bracelets, pendants and necklaces have a universal appeal and you don't have to worry about sizing, etc. If your recipient isn't a jewelry person, but you think they'd benefit from carrying the crystal with them, then perhaps try a keychain.  That's something that everyone will use.  If you are giving small tumbled or natural crystals you can present them in a cloth bag with a personalized card that suggests they carry this in their bag, backpack or briefcase.  If you will be gifting a larger crystal to be placed in a room then choose a shape that will resonate with your recipient.  Spheres, pyramids and points are always interesting and bring wonderful energy to the space.

The most important tip of all is to always follow your heart and enjoy giving as much as you enjoy receiving!

Thank you sooooooo much for sharing. I found it difficult to verbalize what and how I would inform a friend about said topic but you did an awesome job. Thank you and Namaste'.  (Submitted by: Christina Schmidt on November 20, 2016)

Thank you for this helpful information! I actually happen to be in the opposite position. I am the uninformed, newbie, buying for a definite believer. I still found this incredible useful.  (Submitted by: Robin Emerald on July 28, 2016)
