Crystal healing can benefit our lives in many ways, but choosing crystals can often be overwhelming for beginners.

So, to help you start your crystal healing journey, I’ve chosen six crystals I think everyone should have in their collection.

The goal is to give you a well-rounded and versatile selection, so I’ve chosen stones covering all seven Chakras. These crystals are also widely available and inexpensive, so you won’t need to spend a fortune to get started.

1. Amethyst (Crown, Third Eye)

Amethyst Polished Points

My first recommendation is Amethyst. This is one of the most striking crystals, making it an attractive choice for displaying around the home.

Amethyst is a spiritual stone that links to Crown and Third Eye Chakras. It connects you to the universe and spiritual realms, while promoting spiritual development. So, if you want to develop your intuition or spirituality, Amethyst is one of the best stones for beginners.

There are many other benefits of Amethyst. For example, it vibrates at a high frequency, which may stimulate memory formation. Amethyst also has a calming effect that can improve your sleep and help you to remain present during meditation.

Additionally, Amethyst is a wonderful crystal if you feel stressed, unbalanced, or lacking control of your life.

For this reason, I often recommend it to anyone trying to break unwanted habits. Amethyst protects against negativity and aids emotional balance, making it easier to resist habit triggers.

2. Clear Quartz (Crown)

Clear Quartz Cluster Specimen

Clear Quartz is known as The Master Healer. By working through the Crown Chakra, this gemstone brings balance and harmony to the other six Chakras.

An interesting feature of Clear Quartz is that it can be programmed for any intention. This property makes it a versatile crystal that can be used for almost any purpose or goal.

Clear Quartz also amplifies the energy of other crystals. This property can make the rest of your crystal collection more effective, which is why Clear Quartz is an important stone to own.

However, Clear Quartz isn’t just effective for amplifying other crystals – it has plenty of innate healing properties. For example, its powerful energy clears your mind of distractions so you can focus on your intention. It’s also thought to improve memory retention.

Care Tip: Clear Quartz is quick to absorb negative energy from its surroundings. Make sure you cleanse it regularly to remove this energy and maintain your crystal’s healing properties.

3. Citrine (Solar Plexus)

Citrine is a positive crystal that’s a powerful option for manifesting. It’s particularly effective for manifesting money – and is sometimes called the “Lucky Merchant’s Stone.”

Citrine Grid for Self Confidence

The main reason Citrine is effective for attracting abundance is that it promotes a positive mindset. Without positivity and self-belief, limiting beliefs will interfere with the manifesting process. Citrine also helps you stop worrying and understand your worth, which is vital for success.

Aside from abundance, Citrine’s ability to balance the Solar Plexus can improve your energy levels, confidence, and happiness. So, if you’re feeling lethargic or unhappy, Citrine is one of the best stones to keep nearby.

An interesting property of Citrine is that it is said that it doesn’t hold negativity like most other crystals. I still recommend cleansing it regularly, but Citrine doesn’t need to be cleansed as often as other gemstones.

4. Rose Quartz (Heart)

Rose Quartz Hearts

Rose Quartz is a heart-centred crystal associated with love, compassion, and inner peace. It’s a lovely stone for improving your existing relationships. It can even support you to find new love!

Most importantly, Rose Quartz improves your feelings of self-worth and self-love. By healing the Heart Chakra, this stone releases anger you might be holding towards yourself, which is essential for understanding your true value as an individual.

Additionally, Rose Quartz’s link to the Heart Chakra can release resentment you might feel towards others. These feelings can hold back your relationships and make it difficult to feel compassion.

I also often recommend Rose Quartz to people who are grieving. It’s a supportive stone that brings inner peace and comfort, which can help during difficult times.

5. Lapis Lazuli (Throat, Third Eye)

Lapis Lazuli Cabochon Pendant

Lapis Lazuli is a beautiful stone that’s linked to the Throat Chakra and Third Eye Chakra.

As a stone for the Throat Chakra, Lapis Lazuli helps you to voice your thoughts rather than keep them hidden. It also teaches you to trust your intuition and to communicate honestly.

Honesty and sincerity are two of the most valued traits in a friend, which is one of the reasons Lapis Lazuli is known as the “Stone of Friendship”. An additional benefit is that Lapis Lazuli encourages calmness during an argument, which helps you express your feelings clearly.

This stone’s link with the Third Eye provides another set of healing properties. For example, Lapis Lazuli’s ability to open this Chakra may help with intellectual pursuits. Similarly, by balancing the Third Eye, this stone encourages creativity.

6. Tiger’s Eye (Solar Plexus, Sacral, Root)

As you might have guessed from the name, Tiger’s Eye is a fiery crystal associated with courage, focus and self-confidence.

These properties make it a brilliant crystal to keep nearby during a challenging project or when making a hard decision. In addition, Tiger’s Eye’s link with the Sacral Chakra can stimulate creativity, which is often essential for reaching ambitious goals.

Tiger’s Eye isn’t just a crystal for achieving goals, though. I also recommend Tiger’s Eye during sad or stressful times, as it can give you the courage to continue moving forward – even if that just means taking care of your day-to-day needs.

Tiger’s Eye is also a balancing crystal. It combines sun and earth energies, which keeps you grounded and focused. It can also balance the yin-yang energy, which helps with emotional balance and makes it easier to understand other people’s viewpoints.

Tip: Like Clear Quartz, Tiger’s Eye can amplify the energy of other crystals in your collection.

Summary

There’s no right or wrong way to choose crystals. I always encourage crystal healers to listen to their intuition, as this will guide you towards a suitable stone for your goals and situation.

It can be difficult for beginners to know which crystals to start with, though. Every crystal has a unique vibration and set of healing properties, so the options can be overwhelming. Unfortunately, this can sometimes prevent people from starting their crystal journey.

With that in mind, I hope this article has made it easier for you to begin your crystal collection. Crystal healing is an exciting field with many potential benefits, but the best way to learn is to get started!

To summarise, here are my six crystal recommendations for beginners:

  1. Amethyst for spiritual development, intuition, and emotional balance.
  2. Clear Quartz for balancing the Chakras, amplifying the energy of other crystals, and providing focus.
  3. Citrine for manifesting, abundance, and boosting energy.
  4. Rose Quartz for encouraging self-love, compassion, and improving relationships.
  5. Lapis Lazuli for trusting your intuition and speaking your truth.
  6. Tiger’s Eye for courage, balance, and self-confidence.
