Posting here is fine
I do not know much about how a water softener works, (could you share how?), but something did get my attention, so let me respond to that first
Salt can be damaging to many types of crystals--those that are soft in nature can be scratched or damaged when salt is present.
To quote an article in the Healing Crystals Archive http://www.healingcrystals.com/Crystal_Cleaning_Clearing-_A_Personal_Journey_Articles_1010.html
"A lot of crystals can be damaged by a chemical reaction with the salt, which may change the appearance (looking scratched or as if the finish has been removed, etc.). Many times pieces are coated with a high temperature wax (such as shoe polish). Salt is corrosive, so putting these pieces in salt or salt water actually removes this coating, which gives the appearance of scratching, pitting or a flat finish. Some of these crystals are Calcite, Malachite, Rhodochrosite, Selenite, Hematite, and Apatite."
So, I think a rule of thumb would be, if you are unsure, you can do a couple of things:
1) place the crystals outside of the container or
2) place the crystals in a jar or glass of pure water (no salt) and put the jar within the container.
I will definitely need some schooling on the water softening process
with love and crystal blessings,
