Wow, fascinating article! I never realized so may stones contain aluminium. Thanks for providing this information - I will check it before making elixers.

I probably wouldn't use any type of tourmaline in the water - it has an aluminum component to it like many others. I've heard of some people who have used tourmaline - not sure if it was tumbled or not. Anyway - just a heads up.

Yes, the Aluminum thing is something I am currently researching since there are literally hundreds of stones that contain some amount of Aluminum. If it is a only a trace amount versus if it is a major component--and how that may affect the elixir, water, or person ingesting. I have used tumbled Green Tourmaline, Watermelon Tourmaline and black Tourmaline (all tumbled) in charging water along with a few others that I just recently learned contained Aluminum as well, with no visible signs of distress. But of course, that may have depended on a number of factors. And, I do dilute my charged water before drinking (1 part charged water to 2 parts pure water). This is a lot to think about!!

Anyone else has some thoughts or theories??

Hi everyone!

I have been doing some research today on Aluminum and the stones that contain Aluminum (or have Aluminum somewhere in their chemical make up) and have to say I was surprised at the number of rocks, crystals and minerals that do contain Aluminum.

Love is absolutely right when she talks about Tourmalines containing aluminum--in fact, Tourmaline, along with a few other surprises have been added to the Crystal Cautions listing.

I have also been doing some digging into Aluminum toxicity (which normally occurs when there is Aluminum in excessive amounts) because this is a relatively new caution for me. I was surprised to find out how many places we find aluminum on a daily basis too! According to Victoria Abreo on the Alternative Medicine Site, "Aluminum is found naturally in our air, water and soil. It is also used in the process of making cooking pots and pans, utensils and foil. Other items such as over the counter pain killers, anti-inflammatory products, and douche preparations can also contain aluminum. Aluminum is also an additive in most baking powders, is used in food processing, and is present in antiperspirants, toothpaste, dental amalgams, bleached flour, grated cheese, table salt, and beer, (especially when the beer is in aluminum cans). The biggest source of aluminum, however, comes from our municipal water supplies."

I am curious to how you all feel about this. For me, I have decided to err on the side of caution. When using crystals that contain Aluminum for charging water, I will place them in a circle, alternating with crystal points, on the outside of the container.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Hey Kristi...
Thanks for the research info. I am also thinking better to be on the safe side. Besides, our bodies have enough to process. Some have more to deal with than others, depending on where one lives. I am posting my other half of this message in the elixir discussion area. Be well.

Question--just to make sure I understand this...is it OK to make an elixer with these crystals (from the "crystal cautions" article) as long as the crystals don't physically touch the water?

Greetings!
I think for the most part, you could use many of the crystals on the Crystal Cautions list by surrounding the container with them, but not physically touching the water yes. One very good suggestion from one of our forum members was to put the crystals in an empty glass and sit the glass in the container of water (as long as the water cannot pour into the glass). So yes, there are definitely ways around many of those on the Crystal Cautions list.

There are others, like Cinnabar, Crocoite, Cuprite, etc that you want to make absolutely sure that you wash your hands after using. Personally, I would stay away from these and charging water or making elixirs.

I hope this has been helpful!
