Yerba Santa Smudge Sticks (3"-4") - A Holy Herb! Yerba Santa is a diverse herb used for medicinal and spiritual practices by Native American tribes for centuries. The Spanish named it “Holy Herb” for its success in treating respiratory problems including asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis, coughs and allergies plus its ability to eliminate mucus and phlem from the body. This energetic herb is also used to reduce bloating and gas, to assist in elimination, to treat external conditions such as bruises bites and is said to aid rheumatic pain. Yerba Santa is also good for protection and setting boundaries.
Smudging: Yerba Santa is an aeromatic shrub native to California and Oregon. It is sacred to Native Americans and used as a smudge for spiritual cleansing, protection, healing, prayers and to dispel negative energies. It is also used to promote children’s health and is included in medicine and spirit bundles. To burn a smudge stick - just light the tip, blow it out and either wave in air or place in a glass or other fireproof container (one that will not burn) with sand or salt placed therein to hold the smudge upright. If placing the stick in a bowl, you can use a feather to move the smoke around. Voice your intention as you move about the room or your home. For example, you can say, “This house is clear”, or “This house is healthy”. Remember to smudge in every corner, as negativity sometimes will gather there. To extinguish, invert smudge into the sand or salt to smother, and never under running water.
Cautions: Never blow on the stick while smudging, as this could cause sparks to fly and cause a fire. Do not wear billowy, loose fitting clothing and keep windows closed while smudging. If gently waving your smudge stick room to room, always hold a fireproof container underneath.
