What is the difference between stones, rocks and crystals? Serious question, honest... People keep asking me why I buy "rocks"...

Hi Y:

If it makes you feel any better I get the exact same question all the time.  And you should see the looks I get if someone happens to come to my house.  Yet when these same people are looking for advice or suggestions on how to make something better they always ask me for help.   I think that deep down even the skeptics and "eye-rollers" are believers.

Here are the scientific/geological explanations of the differences between stones, rocks and crystals.

A Stone is a solid, non-metallic mineral matter.  A Rock is a natural material, hard or soft, consisting of one or more minerals.  Stones form together to make a Rock.  One of the main differences is that Stones are always hard while a Rock can be hard or soft.  Both are formed from minerals.

Crystals are a solid material comprised of ions, atoms and molecules that are arranged in a repeating pattern to become solid.  Did I mention that I am not a scientist so if you are confused I completely understand.  Basically Crystals start as liquid form that solidifies - or crystallizes - and thus you have a Crystal.  All 3 are formed in the earth but they are comprise of different materials and formed by different methods and of course will carry different energies.  So a Clear Quartz is not a Rock or a Stone...it is a Crystal.

Thank you for reaching out to us and for your support of Healing Crystals.com.  I hope that I have been able to help and that you will not hesitate to contact me with any other questions.

Crystal Blessings!
