Hi there, I am new to crystals. I found out that you can use rice to clean the gemstone. Are you using cooked rice or raw white rice or raw brown rice? I'm not so clear about this. I bought my first crystals from here. They are Clear Quartz, Fluorite, Orange Calcite and Black Tourmaline.
Not sure if crystals are the same as stones. Pardon me for asking this question. Thanks for your time. Many blessing to you all.

Hi T:

Thanks so much for your interesting questions! I have never used rice to clear my crystals but I have heard that it is done and it is very effective.
Use raw white or brown, dry rice and bury the crystals in it like you would dirt. It is up to you how long that you leave them in there but I would be sure to check on them frequently and maybe only do it for 15-30 minutes. I don't believe the rice would harm your crystals but it is better to play it safe.

Here are the scientific/geological explanations of the differences between stones, rocks and crystals with some information about minerals..

A Stone is a solid, non-metallic mineral matter. A Rock is a natural material, hard or soft, consisting of one or more minerals. Stones form together to make a Rock. One of the main differences is that Stones are always hard while a Rock can be hard or soft. Both are formed from minerals.

Crystals are a solid material comprised of ions, atoms and molecules that are arranged in a repeating pattern to become solid.
Did I mention that I am not a scientist so if you are confused I completely understand. Basically Crystals start as liquid form that solidifies - or crystallizes - and thus you have a Crystal. All 3 are formed in the earth but they are comprise of different materials and formed by different methods. So a Clear Quartz is not a Rock or a Stone...it is a Crystal.
