Animal Totem - Peacock
By Susan Jolley
This animal totem is Peacock – Resurrection, Beauty, Awareness
Peacock is associated with the Phoenix; he will lose and grow all of his tail feathers once a year. This is symbolic of resurrection, rising from the ashes. His lesson is to help you shed the "feathers" of your past so that you can take back the true beauty of your soul. Peacock is asking you to be happy in your own skin and release any guilt you have about who you are. He is showing you that it is okay to remove your masks and just be your authentic self. Rather than being afraid to express yourself, celebrate yourself. Raise your feathers so the world can see your true beauty.
Peacock is a beautiful bird, and his call holds a touch of laughter. He is saying that no one thing, including beauty, should be taken too seriously. He teaches you to be centered, grateful for what you have and to take a light hearted approach to everything that comes your way. Laughter is the best way to keep yourself healthy, and being healthy is an important aspect of wholeness. Peacock teaches you that true beauty comes from within. Learn to love yourself. Learn to release your ego. Trust yourself. View yourself with kindness, appreciation, compassion and gratitude.
Peacock also serves as a guardian. The eyes on his feathers remind you of your clairvoyant gifts, and your ability to see into the past, present and future. He is teaching you that greater wisdom can be accessed with awareness of the many aspects of life that surround you. Use your gifts to gain insight into your past lives and the karmic effect they are having on your present life. Be mindful of your surroundings. Use the power of watchfulness to strengthen and balance your mental, emotional and spiritual foundations. Learn to live in the present moment instead of the past or future so that you can make the decisions that are right for you at this time.
