Within our existence there has been a long fascination with the moon and its influence over our lives. Women may find that their menstrual cycles harmonize with the lunar cycle; some pregnant women find their waters are more likely to flow close to the full moon when having a natural birth. Humans are after all three-quarters water, and like the oceans and the plants, we are affected by the lunar cycles. As well as consisting of water, we are energetic beings. And since Full Moons are times of great energy, our vital energy can be especially strong during this time.
We will review the lunar cycle in four phases.
NEW MOON
Here is where the energy is quiet and makes for an excellent time to reflect and contemplate new ideas and changes you might want to bring about within yourself and your life. It’s a time for meditation and contemplation. Also, the sun and moon are exerting their gravitational influence from a similar side of the earth pulling the tides more strongly creating greater clarity of direction. This encourages us to feel more individual. The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings as well as for love and romance, health or job hunting.

WAXING
The lunar reflection of the sun is rising and we become more aware of the moon each night. This begins to create a gentle rise in energy that we can use to help get new projects off the ground and generate new ideas. If we had an interesting insight during the new moon this would be the ideal time to explore ways to put those ideas into action.
During this rising tide of energy we can sometimes ride the wave of energy to assist with picking up the momentum to take us through to the waning cycle and the new moon. The waxing moon is for a time to put thoughts towards love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or health.

FULL MOON
The moon is now on the opposite side of our planet reflecting sunlight back to us which spreads the sun’s energy and makes the night brighter as well as creating a gravitational pull from the other side of the planet. This would be an excellent time to act on you thoughts and spread your ideas and be more social. This is a time where generally people will feel more lively and outgoing. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healing for serious conditions, can be done now. Also one can work on love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams during this time.

WANING
The waning moon is used for banishing negative energies or for ridding oneself of addictions or illness. Here the energy is diminishing and moving to being progressively more inward looking. This is an excellent time to take stock of your life, cherish what you have and explore the practicalities of being efficient and effective. It would be an interesting time to focus on developing your own inner strength and resources.
Crystals: Black Tourmaline, Jet, Black Onyx, Apache Tears
There is also actually a fifth phase of the moon that must be discussed and that is the dark of the moon. The dark phase process is a time of healing and renewal rather than one of fear and unknowing; a time of mystery, wisdom, and healing power. The Dark of the Moon is typically the last three days of the lunar cycle, immediately preceding the New Moon, and the time when the night sky is notably absent the presence of the Moon. The dark moon is a time for ridding oneself of bad habits, and for exploring our darkest recesses and understanding our angers and passions. Dark moon is a time of protection, both physical and spiritual, and it is the most powerful time to banish negativity, or banish that which we no longer need such as addictions.
