Hello! I am starting a career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a correctional officer, and I was wondering if you could steer me toward some stones which would help me on my journey? I will be one of a select few female CO's working with over 4700 inmates, so there are sure to be some challenges and stress. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!
Dear M,
Congratulations on your new job and thank you for reaching out to us for crystal advice. I can think of three crystals that would be good for supporting you in your new position. As I see it, your three big needs will be protection from negative energy, stress relief after shifts, and something to help clear off any residual energy you bring home, and help draw pure, high vibrational energy into your life and home environment to help you stay strong in such an intense work environment.
So first, for protection from negative energy when you still need to be a strong energetic presence yourself, I like Black Obsidian. While Black Tourmaline is my favorite protective crystal, it has the tendency to hide the energy of the wearer, and you need to very much be a presence, so I believe the Black Tourmaline will serve you better. You may need to experiment to see just how big a piece you want to wear or carry--or if you can't wear it or carry it, you might want to set up a protection grid to send you the energy throughout your shift. Just remember to re-energize it with your intention before you leave for work each day, and take it apart to cleanse and re-establish your intention each week. Think of it as tending an energetic garden.
Second, would the something to help calm stress and any anxiety that might arise. Lepidolite is an excellent ally for relaxing at the end of a stressful work day (or night). You can hold it and breathe deeply with the intention of inhaling peace and exhaling stress, or whatever works for you.
And finally,Selenite. When working with any group of people, let alone people with difficult or volatile energy, Selenite is a must have for your own space. I have it all over my house so that after a day of working with teenagers, I can sit in an energetically clear and protected environment and recoup from it all. It's good for pain relief on sore muscles after too much time on your feet. It's good for clearing off energetic muck that might linger after more stressful days. And, if insomnia is a problem, or even bad dreams, hold a piece (polished, not raw--raw can flake off too easily) in your hand as you fall asleep and let it clear and protect you.
Since your crystals will be working overtime helping you with this very important work you'll be doing, remember to clear them regularly--especially the Obsidian. Selenite doesn't need it as often, but it will need it from time to time. Selenite will dissolve in water, and Lepidolite is fragile that way as well, so you might want to use reiki if you do reiki, incense, sound such as classical or spa type music or the light of the full moon.
