Hello, My name is Wayne. My girlfriend and I are in Sedona, Az. as I write this. We came here on my whim because I did not want to sit around the house till Sunday to leave and visit my Dad in Prescott. Not quite sure why this place but here I am. Anyway we got here late Friday night and then went in to town Saturday morning. We visited some metaphysical shops which was quite interesting. The shop keepers told us about crystals. We then went to two different Vortex areas here. The first one I got a massive headache and the last one nothing at all, but the countryside is very beautiful. Anyway the trip has set off in me a desire to learn more about crystals. So….my questions is what is the best way to get info to learn about crystals? Is there a book you would recommend? Also what are some good crystals to start out with and how would I incorporate them in to my day?

Any direction you give me would be greatly appreciated.

Wayne

Greetings Wayne,

You have definitely come to the right place :) Healing Crystals has a large archived article section where you can learn all about crystals. You may want to start with our Crystal Reference Library which contains articles on crystal energy basics, clearing, programming and storing crystals, as well as articles on crystal healing.

There is also a great FREE crystal course being developed on our sister site, The Crystal Wiki.. You will have to register to see the course materials, but from what I have seen of the course, it is well worth the effort.

As for books, we do have a list of our favorite recommendations.
We also have a combined list of Free Crystal resources that you can view here.

For beginners, I often recommend the following article which give some insight into how crystals can be used.

I know that is a lot of info to take in at once, but the beauty of this is that the info is there for you when you are ready :)

As for crystals to start with, I always recommend a nice Clear Quartz point. The size does not matter. Simply choose something you like. Quartz amplifies the energy of that which is around it. Get a feel for this basic piece. You can sit in silence and simply look at it, hold it for a bit, see what impressions you get from it. Do your fingers tingle? Do you feel the crystal warming in your hand or getting cooler? You may want to even write down any observations you have.

Other crystals you may want to consider would be a grounding stone. Something like Hematite, Red Jasper, Obsidian, Black Tourmaline etc.  Grounding stones are normally earth toned colors- brown, black, the brick red of Jasper, etc. These stones help keep your feet planted firmly on the ground (energetically) so that you can remain focused and grounded as you go through your day.
I have hyperlinked these suggestions. I am a firm believer that looking at a crystal or stone, even in a picture, can help find what resonates with you personally. It could be something as simple as "wow, cool!" This is your intuition at work :)

For any beginner, I always recommend 11 crystals. These cover the energy centers of the body (chakras) as well as a few pieces I feel everyone should have.
They include:
Black Tourmaline
Carnelian
Citrine
Green Aventurine
Lapis Lazuli
Aquamarine
Amethyst
Lepidolite
Rose Quartz
Clear Quartz
Selenite

There are several ways that you can incorporate these into your day. For starters, you can place tumbled stones in your pocket or you may want to acquire a pendant of that particular stone that you can wear. You do not have to carry all the stones at once. Start by randomly picking out one to carry during the day. Pay attention to how it makes you feel. Write down your thoughts at the end of the day then choose another stone for the next day and so on.

I think this will give you some good starting points. Of course, if you find you have other questions as you go along, please do not hesitate to email at any time.

with love and crystal blessings,
Kristi

Wow, this site is very helpful. I wish I had known about Crystals and Gemstones all along. I'm so attached to Citrine. I can wait to get my Crystals. I want to resellable them as part time.

Thanks you  (Submitted by: prettyface on August 09, 2017)
