I was wondering two things. Before I found your site I was buying chips and such from ebay. My questions are (1) Will the gems still work if the are cut/rounded/polished/tiny (as small as 2mm) and two (2), how can I tell if my gems are real? I thank you so much for your time and all the information (which I'm still reading through).

Hi Monica,

Most definitely! Crystals carry the same energy frequency no matter if they are small chips or larger specimens. The frequency of the energy is the same. Here is an article from the Healing Crystals archive that may be helpful:

In my experience, the most accurate way to tell if your gems are real are to send them to a testing company. However, this is pretty pricey. There are websites that share various ways to test pieces, but many times, in the process you end up ruining the piece. The best advice I can give you is to ask a lot of questions. Ask where the gems were mined. Ask up front if they are real or lab enhanced. You may not always get an honest answer, but definitely ask anyway. Find vendors that are trustworthy and have excellent reputations. They are much less likely to lie or mislead you. If the name is "made up" or carries a trademark, do your research carefully. There are companies out there that make up new names for old crystals. Many times, these crystals are lab grown or enhanced. I have been known to use a hammer and gently tap the piece to see inside. A lot of times, this is a very telling sign as well, but again, you will ruin your crystal.

The best advice I can give you is to research. If you don't have the time, find someone who will do the research for you. When it comes to crystals, Education is the key :)

If you are not sure of any particular piece, do not hesitate to ask :)

With love and crystal blessings,
