The weather is turning cold here in Virginia and last month brought super storm Sandy. Thankfully, the DC area was spared the worst of the storm but we continue to send our prayers and energy to those in need of support.

Moving into winter is a good time to be industrious. Read Sonia's article "You Can Do This" for suggestions on helpful Crystals for your every day tasks. For those who like Tarot already and for those who are interested, Tara has written a wonderful article on Crystals and Tarot.

We continue to work steadily on our retail store and plan to open by December 1st in time for holiday shopping. If you're planning to visit, call us at 703-828-4325 to let us know that you're coming and we'll make sure to have a staff member available just for your appointment. Our retail store is adjacent to our picking warehouse where we fulfill all of our website orders. We continue to add lots of fun new items to our online catalog and we will have some incredible deals and close outs in our retail store.

You Can Do This! (Helpful Crystals for Getting Things Done)

By Sonia Acone

This is not going to be another of those articles on how to keep and stick to your New Year’s resolutions (and really, how many of us actually keep them anyway?). No, this article is going to help you get through the day-to-day things that need taking care of and give you the boost you need to plow through that lengthy list you wrote down a few weeks ago and just can’t seem to cross anything off of yet. Been there, done that. And it’s not for lack of willpower. Everyone has days where they just seem a little “off” and can’t seem to start a project, finish a project, stay on track or just get a load of laundry done. Perhaps you’re overstressed (and who isn’t these days?), exhausted or just lack a bit of self-esteem to get you through. Maybe you’ve hit a rut that you can’t seem to climb out of. Do you procrastinate? Are you following the same old patterns? How’s that working for you? Not too well, I’m sure. Do not despair, my friend. There are a host of crystals that can help to raise your self-esteem, get you motivated, keep you focused and give you the perseverance to achieve those goals, no matter how lofty or simple they may be.

Letting Go

Before you can move on, you need to first let go of those old patterns and ways of thinking that may be holding you back.  Perhaps you’re resistant to change; new routines frighten you or you’ve become complacent in your ways.  One of the crystals that can help you become more open to change and new ways of thinking is Garnet.  It will ease you out of those old patterns and gives you the courage to move on.  If you’re one of those people who obsess over every little detail, then Green Calcite can ease you out of that kind of behavior.  Another helpful crystal is Sodalite, which aides in feelings of being inadequate and brings about emotional stability.

Self-Esteem

Now that those old patterns are gone, you may be feeling a bit unsure of yourself and perhaps a bit fearful.  Crystals that can ease those fears as well as increase your self-esteem are Citrine, Amber and Kunzite (Sodalite is also helpful for this).  Not only is Citrine used as a prosperity stone, but it also helps you see yourself as a valuable person and increases abundance in your life (and not just the monetary kind).  Amber gives you the courage to move forward without fear of what others may think.  Kunzite increases your self-esteem in a calming fashion as well as getting rid of compulsive behaviors, clearing the path to your goals.

Focus/Motivation

The goal is in sight; however, so are fifty more trying to vie for your attention.  What’s needed now is to focus on that one in particular that’s most important to you and the motivation to bring that goal to fruition.  Crystals that are most helpful in keeping you on task and motivated are Fluorite, Apatite, Hematite, Black Onyx and Tourmaline.   All of these stones help with inspired new ideas, keep you from straying farther from your goals, relieve over-thinking, and get you to take charge of your situation.

Perseverance

You’ve got your focus and you are now motivated.  You will persevere.  You will win and the crystals that are going to help you are Lapis Lazuli, Rose Quartz, Golden Topaz and Clear Quartz.  Lapis Lazuli gives you clarity of mind and constancy.  Rose Quartz will help to increase creativity and negate feelings of inadequacy so that you can move forward.  Golden Topaz increases self-assurance and keeps you motivated.  Clear Quartz releases negativity, keeps you focused and re-energizes the mind and body, giving you that extra push you need to realize your goals.

Please keep in mind that you needn’t have all of the crystals listed above.  One or two are most likely sufficient.  I’ve given you extra choices so that you may choose the ones that “sing” to you.  When in doubt, or you haven’t any of these stones, use Clear Quartz, as it is the all-around crystal.  Now get out there and cross off that to-do list.  You can do this!

Crystals and the Tarot: An Energetic Partnership

By Tara Mideaker

All of us are seekers of knowledge and are constantly looking within and without to find answers.  While some look for guidance from outside forces, I believe that the answer to every question from why we are here to which dress I should buy can be found within ourselves.  That's right...we already have all of the answers but they've been hidden from us and forgotten through time and trial and all the stuff that goes with living our earthly life.  Being the constant seeker, we have developed different tools to help us uncover this lost knowledge and among those are the Tarot Cards.

If you are not familiar, the Tarot is a deck of 78 cards with various images that is divided by the Major and Minor Arcana, suits and numbers.  Created in the 15th century as a game (see what happens when there is no television), it later became used for magical and divinatory purposes.  While similar, the Tarot really stands apart from Oracle Cards because of its history, size, and a perceived darkness that many find disturbing.  As a result, those who regularly use Oracle Cards to gain insight and positive affirmations might never use the Tarot for a similar purpose.  I think they are missing out because the Tarot is neither as complicated nor as dark as it may seem.  Personally, I find the Tarot a little more truthful - maybe a little more insightful - than some Oracle Cards.  In particular, the Tarot can give you valuable insight into all of the particular energies at work regarding your query.  The Tarot will tell a detailed story of your journey with a beginning, middle, and an end.  And if you don't like how the journey is going....the cards will point you in the right direction to change your story.

Since Crystals are such an effective catalyst when working with energy, they are the perfect partner for the Tarot.  I believe that the right Crystal/Tarot combination will ignite the energy surrounding the story and together act as an ally on your journey. Since both are tools with endless potential to enlighten, transform and yes, even heal, let's see how their partnership can work for you.

Clear Quartz will effectively clear out all of the old energy by simply placing the crystal on top of your deck.  This is important since you don't want your readings to be muddied by past energy and patterns.  Even better, store your cards with Clear Quartz.  Just be sure to clean your crystal frequently of the absorbed energy.  The entire Quartz family (Amethyst, Citrine, Rose Quartz, Smokey Quartz, etc.) is a natural partner with the Tarot since they amplify the positive energy and protect against the negative.

Calcite will aid you with understanding and analyzing what the cards want you to know.  Most importantly, it will help you to remember and mentally accept those messages that are unpleasant.  Similar to Quartz, Calcite is an excellent agent to clear, amplify and neutralize energy.  I personally store my cards with an Optical Calcite.

Sodalite is one of my favorite stones to use with the Tarot.  The Tarot is an image-based tool that often works best when you just look at the picture on the card and let it speak to you.  Sodalite helps us to really see the patterns and details in those images and clearly determine the message they have for you.  I like to think of this stone as "The Illuminator" because when I am confused or just not getting it, I'll hold the Sodalite in my hand, look again and the message is crystal clear!

Stilbite is excellent to use as a bridge between the physical "seeing" of the cards to the metaphysical "feeling" them.  The Tarot images are meant to be archetypes of persons, places and situations that all of us encounter throughout our journey. While we all may "see" the same image, that image is going to resonate within each of us in a unique way and that "feeling" is key to uncovering our personal message.

Mookaite helps us to remain objective in our analysis and make the best possible choices based on that objectivity - often the most challenging part of working with the Tarot.

As with pretty much everything in life, when seeking your best Crystal/Tarot combination you should always go with what feels best for you.  Experiment and have fun with different combinations as you let your story unfold and remember to enjoy the journey!
