We feel that lab enhanced stones can be effective for transmitting healing energy. Heat treating or enhancing a crystal does change the vibration, but it does not eliminate or reduce the potential healing effect.
Crystals are a wonderful, amazing, joyous gift from Mother Earth. They are often selected for their beauty, colorful hues, sparkle, and clarity. In the metaphysical realm, they are additionally chosen to assist with a variety of issues, such as helping to ease a physical ailment or to enhance our own energy for healing, meditation, communication with higher self, or dreaming (just to name a few). Many prefer their crystals to be all natural, as they were found in Mother Nature. Others may be drawn to the shimmer and sheen of crystals that have been enhanced in some way, be it through tumbling, heat treating, or even created in a lab.
So does enhancing the aesthetics of a crystal damage it in any way? Change its energy vibration? Remove the healing power?
I can only speak for myself here, and my answer is no.
I offer this explanation for discussion.
Enhancement means:
1. To make greater, as in value, beauty, or effectiveness; augment.
2. To provide with improved, advanced, or sophisticated features
There are a number of ways in which crystals are enhanced. In fact, you can bet that all of your crystals, every one, have been enhanced. Why? When crystals are harvested out of the mines they are not carefully removed and dusted off. That would take much time. They are, instead, usually blasted out of the mines, shocking them into the light of day from their cozy caves. But that is not the end of the enhancing. Most crystals are cleansed in a solution bath of ocyllic acid in order that the dirt and impurities can be washed away, making them more pleasing to the eye.
They are then shipped all over the world, where the wholesale dealers may decide to tumble the stones into smaller, easy to carry pieces. They may polish the crystals to smooth out dings or bring out the clarity of the piece. Or they may heat treat the crystals in order to change/deepen the color. These again, are all designed to help the overall look and feel of the crystal - to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
There are a number of ways to enhance a crystal, not just the bonding of gold to quartz as in examples of Aqua Aura. Some crystals are heated to altar the color or clarity. Tanzanite is a perfect example of this procedure. Tanzanite is a gem variety of Zoisite. In its natural state, Tanzanite is more of a brown tone - a blending of blue, purple, and green. Heat treating this piece brings out the beautiful blue that you see in tumbles, chips, gemstones and beads.
Citrine is often heat treated, but not always. Dark, iced tea colored Citrine is either Amethyst or Smoky Quartz that is heated to high temperatures. Much of the Prasiolite found on the market today is actually Amethyst that has been heat treated, mostly from specific locations in Brazil and Arizona. Natural Prasiolite comes from Poland and is not treated.
Other crystals are irradiated to altar their color. Blue Topaz and dark, almost black Smoky Quartz can be irradiated.
Goldstone is simply glass enhanced with Copper flakes. Even at high temperatures, the Copper does not break down, causing the beautiful sparkles found in Goldstone.
Cultured Pearls are often bleached to lighten and enhance their color. Many times (but not always), stones are dyed or stained, like Onyx and Carnelian, to bring out a deeper, more even color.
Other stones, especially gemstones used in jewelry can be waxed or filled, meaning that cracks or dings may be filled with oil, wax, paraffin or colored glass, plastic or a similar substance to improve the appearance of the gem.
While there are specific lists of these enhancements recognized by Gem Dealers, it is less likely to be understood by those in the metaphysical community since most operate on a spiritual/metaphysical plane as opposed to a scientific one. Irregardless, these are all types of crystal enhancement.
As humans, we enhance ourselves constantly. We have our ears pierced, get colorful tattoos, cut and style our hair, spray on fake tans, wear jewelry, insert color contacts to enhance our eyes, and the list goes on and on. We dress to impress. We may have a fancy house or car. All of these things and more enhance us. The question becomes, does this change our core energy, our soul energy, our higher self energy? Aesthetically it may change us, and momentarily we may have an increase (or decrease) in energy, but does it affect us at our chemical/genetic make up? I don't think so.
So it is with this logic, that I say to you, while crystals may be lab enhanced through heat, dyeing, bleaching and other such techniques, in my opinion, it in no way changes the core energy - the divine energy/vibration/frequency of a crystal.
You love your crystals. You work with your crystals in a variety of ways. Your intuition draws you to what is needed. If you prefer not to work with crystals that are enhanced...that is perfectly OK! The point I want to make is that we are as varied as the crystals we love so much. Follow your heart and use what you feel most comfortable with.
