"Crystals for the Sacral Chakra"
By Crystal CAT

The next in our series of chakra articles is on the Sacral Chakra. Located in the abdomen, just below the belly button, the Sacral Chakra is connected to the emotional body (lower), and helps us to have the desire to be open and honest with others in our lives. Also called the Navel Chakra, the Sacral Chakra sends energy to the adrenal glands, and governs the bladder, reproductive organs, and the muscular system. It is this area that holds our center of gravity, helping us to define our place in the world. The Sacral Chakras corresponding metal is iron, its musical note is D, and its color is orange. It is linked to creativity and desire. The energy center of the Sacral Chakra is ruled by the Moon, connected to the emotional body, and is the home to our nurturing self.

The Sacral Chakra supports our inner balance, our emotional connection with the world, and our relationships with others. This energy center can help us connect to the cycles in our lives and understand their meanings and purpose. More sensual than the sexual Root Chakra, the Sacral Chakra is the center where we find our power to transfer thought into action. The healthy function of the Sacral Chakra shows as an ability to creatively work out the details of a situation, to get to the core issue and resolve it. From the Sacral Chakra, we can draw the ability to recognize when we are in the flow of life, and to change when we have strayed from that natural flow. When this chakra first begins to function abnormally, one might first notice a sensation of being heavier on one side of the body, which is the result of the energy flow that has been thrown out of balance. If continued, the person may begin to drop healthy and necessary boundaries, which can later create relationship issues with friends, lovers, and coworkers.

A closed Sacral Chakra can manifest as a tendency for isolation, a lack of nurturing ability, and feeling disconnected in the universe. It can bring out a lack of caring for others, including animals. Many abusive people typically have a closed Sacral Chakra. When the Sacral Chakra is too open, one may find themselves becoming a martyr and attracting needy people into one's inner circle. A wide-open Sacral Chakra can create psychological problems such as mood swings and bipolar disorder, and can cause physical issues such as infertility and urinary tract disorders. Lower back pain, prostate disorders, and vaginal infections can also arise from the dysfunction of this chakra. Parents may notice difficulty relating to their children when this Chakra is out of whack. Working on the Sacral Chakra can help one to become stable and balanced, and feel a healthy connection to community and environment, with proper boundaries.

Stress has a tendency to form blockages in the Sacral Chakra, and can display as an inability to work under pressure, but can also develop into a need to become a martyr by letting others dominate and then forming resentments for that domination. This contrasts the Sacral Chakra that is too open, which can contribute to a personal need to dominate others. A blocked Sacral Chakra can also create an inability to let go of unhealthy attachments. Problems with one's familial relationships in early life can also cause a blocked or closed Sacral Chakra, setting one up for future relationship issues down the road. Working to bring healthy function to the Sacral Chakra can help one who is addressing any problems with the inner child.

Those who are unfamiliar with using crystals can choose stones from the orange or orange-red colors for their work with the chakras. Of the multitude of crystals associated with the Sacral Chakra, the ones that immediately come to mind are the following:

Orange Calcite (cleansing and activating)
Coral Calcite (amplifier)
Moonstone (balancing)
Orange Carnelian (healing)
Snowflake Obsidian (calming)
Citrine (cleansing and energizing)
Orange Aventurine (opening)
Leopardskin Jasper (protecting)

As with the Root Chakra, not all are of the typical Sacral Chakra color.

Orange Calcite is a classic Sacral Chakra stone and a great cleanser for this chakra. It can bring an instinctual wisdom to help those who are struggling with their inner voice. Orange Calcite can activate the Sacral Chakra, enhancing the ability for normal socialization. Orange Calcite's powerful action on the Sacral Chakra can enhance one's ability to develop and implement new projects either at home or at work. Orange Calcite can be placed on the Sacral Chakra during meditation to remove blockages and open this chakra to process new energies from the universal energy field, bringing personal power back into the shy and inhibited person's life.

Coral Calcite also has a nice orange coloring and is good for the Sacral Chakra. Calcite is a powerful energy amplifier and cleanser. The purifying energy of Calcite cleans out stored negative energy from a room, the body, etc. Use Calcite to clear out old energy patterns and to increase personal motivation and drive. Calcite is also a good choice for distance healing work, because it amplifies the energy being sent.

Moonstone is associated with the Sacral Chakra as the Sacral Chakra is ruled by the Moon. Working with Moonstone can help to balance the Sacral Chakra, bringing one into harmony with one's natural environment. During meditation, one can place Moonstone on the Sacral Chakra to bring one into harmony with the cycles of life, stabilize the emotions, and balance yin and yang. Moonstone can also connect the Sacral Chakra to the Third-Eye, bringing an increased ability to channel intuitive information into one's waking consciousness.

Orange Carnelian has many healing qualities related to the Sacral Chakra. It stimulates this chakra, bringing passion to the holder. By balancing all three lower chakras, Carnelian can help one to form a healthy emotional connection to physical reality. Placing this stone on the Sacral Chakra encourages one to become centered in this world, while maintaining a healthy outlook on spirituality. For those who are despondent and /or disconnected, Carnelian can bring renewed sense of the creative life-force within an individual. Organs helped by Carnelian include the reproductive organs, the lower back, and the bladder.

Snowflake Obsidian can bring calm to an overactive Sacral Chakra, helping one to release unhealthy relationship patterns. Many crystal-healers like to use Snowflake Obsidian to restore balance where one has been at extremes for too long. Meditation with a piece of Snowflake Obsidian on the Sacral Chakra can assist in the recovery of one's inner peace and harmony.

Citrine is another classic Sacral Chakra stone. Heat treated citrine has a nice burnt orange color and matches well with the sacral chakra. Powered by the Sun, Citrine warms, cleanses, and energizes. Highly protective Citrine does not absorb negative energy and therefore never needs to be cleared, making it a great tool for transmuting negative energy. See this page for our selection of Citrine:

Orange Aventurine is a wonderful Sacral Chakra crystal. Our Orange Aventurine is naturally orange quartz, mined in northern India. Orange Aventurine is good for opening and balancing the Sacral Chakra. Orange Aventurine is great when dealing with issues of self-worth. Using these Orange Aventurine Cabochons may help you to clear blockages between the sacral and third-eye chakras.

Leopardskin Jasper is also a good Sacral Chakra stone. A very nurturing stone, tumbled Leopard Skin Jasper is good for Protection, evoking passion, and for connecting to the Animal Kingdom in the physical and spiritual planes.

As the location of one's basic emotions, one can use crystals with the Sacral Chakra to develop a healthy center of creativity and sexuality, and can help one to release unhealthy emotions. Working with the Sacral Chakra can help one to address the needs of the inner child, releasing control issues and destructive tendencies. Using the crystals mentioned in a body layout can help to heal, activate, and balance the Sacral Chakra.
