Crystals in Honor of MartinLuther King, Jr. Day

By Tara Mideaker

In January we designate a day to honor a man who had a dream. We all have dreams but Martin Luther King, Jr. was special because he was the best kind of dreamer – the kind who acts on his dreams. We celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to remember the life and contributions of a man who actively followed his convictions and dedicated his life towards making this a better world.  Instead of being content to just fantasize about things being different, he focused on making things happen.  While others used the past as an excuse, Martin Luther King, Jr. worked towards healing that past, letting it go and moving forward.  His work towards peace and harmony in our lifetime is a constant source of inspiration for all of us, both personally and globally.

So in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. let us not just be dreamers – let us be doers.  If there is something that you would like to see be better than it is, then take action.  Get out there and do what you can to make this a better world for yourself and for all of us. Imagine the possibilities if every one of us just made one small difference.

Here are some crystals to inspire and support your efforts:

A huge step in making a difference is through service to your community.  There are so many ways that you can offer your time and resources and even the smallest effort can make a huge difference to someone else.  Blue Chalcedony and Peach Quartz are crystals that will help you to uncover the ways that you can help.  They will also remind you that by helping others we also help ourselves.

While each of us goes after things in different ways, we all basically want the same things out of life.  Understanding and accepting each other’s differences and recognizing that we are all equal in our pursuits will enable us to build a more peaceful and harmonious world.  That should be something that we can all agree upon.  Abalone Shell and Blue Aventurine open your mind to all sides of a situation and help you to empathize with others.  Rhodochrosite promotes a consistently peaceful and loving environment and mindset.

Just letting something go and moving on can be the most difficult feat to accomplish.  But it is also the most effective means of healing.  We have no control over our past.  It cannot be changed and whatever has happened cannot be undone.  What we can control is the here and now.  When we choose to forgive and to let go of whatever pain we have from the past, we are consciously building a better future.   Bloodstone and Hematite are both effective for gentle release and transformation of past pain and negative energy.  Chrysoprase allows you to break the negative cycle, move forward and build on the hope for a bright future.

Doing the Right Thing

It sounds so simple, so why is it so difficult to do the right thing?  In any situation we intuitively know what the right thing to do is, but following through can be a challenge.  Maybe it goes against convention or maybe it is something uncomfortable for us.  Often it may not be the thing that we want to do and so we ignore it or let ourselves be talked out of it.  It takes a lot of courage and conviction to do the right thing.  Carnelian can boost your courage and it is also great for making decisions.  Garnet encourages you to follow your beliefs.  Lapis Lazuli enhances your intuition and energizes your personal power.

Remember that every day is a new opportunity to make a positive difference in your life and your world.   Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
